Training

One of the key benefits of being a member of Gordon Skiers is access to our extensive Alpine coaching program. All sessions are run by coaches qualified through BASI (British Association of Snowsport Instructors) or Snowsport Scotland, or equivalent internationally-recognised organisations.

Where do we train?

We are based at the dry ski slope at Alford Ski Centre, where we run two training sessions per week:

  • Wednesday Evening – 19.00 – 21.00 (year round)
  • Friday Evening – 19.15 – 21.15 (year round –  unless weekend training on snow avail)

From January to Easter, depending upon snow conditions, Sunday training will be available at either the Lecht or Glenshee. While the Lecht is our home snow base, with a good club hut situated there, in order to maximise training opportunities, we have tried to follow the snow over recent years.

What to Expect

Sessions are varied, with exercises and coaching tailored to the desired outcome however a typical session may start with a short period of warm-up exercises on skis, followed by a period of progressive technical coaching. We usually end each session with some fun races, either individual timed runs or head-to-head dual slalom runs. These are informal races with the fun element emphasises, however do provide each trainee with a good indication of their progress over a season.
